Must-Visit in Bundang: SuGyeOk's Deep & Savory Dakhanmari (Korean Chicken Hot Pot) (Korea, Bundang)
Aloha, everyone! 🌺
Did you guys know there is a famously delicious Dakhanmari (Korean Chicken Hot Pot) restaurant right here in Bundang?
Today, I visited SuGyeOk (Migeum Branch), where you can enjoy a deep, clean, and savory chicken broth without having to travel all the way to Seoul. If you've been looking for a proper Dakhanmari spot in the Bundang area, I can confidently recommend this place to you!
Even though I went early, the parking lot was already full, and the restaurant was packed with customers. Luckily, I made a reservation in advance so I could get a table right away. Since it's such a popular local hotspot, I highly recommend making a reservation before you go!
I took the interior photos after finishing our meal when some seats opened up, but trust me, the line of customers never stops here. And once you take a sip of their broth, you'll immediately understand why!
While waiting, I read the guide on how to make the perfect dipping sauce—which is the absolute flower of Dakhanmari! They also have fun little events going on, like a timer game and a rock-paper-scissors game for receipt reviews, which adds a fun vibe to the place.
What to Order? They have the classic Dakhanmari, Neungi Mushroom Dakhanmari, and a spicy version. For side dishes, they offer potato pancakes and spicy chicken salad.
However, I strongly recommend ordering the Set Menu! We ordered the 2-Person Set (36,000 KRW), which includes: Chicken Neck Nurungji Porridge + Dakhanmari + Kalguksu (Knife-cut noodles).
The set provides more than enough food for two adults. The pot was generously filled with chicken, large green onions, rice cakes (Tteok), and potatoes.
They also served shredded cabbage, water kimchi, herring roe, minced garlic, and Dadaegi (Korean spicy red pepper paste). The garlic and spicy paste are the magic ingredients for your personal dipping sauce!
The Mind-Blowing Starter: Chicken Neck Nurungji Porridge! You guys... my husband and I were absolutely shocked by how good this was! It has a strong smoky charcoal flavor, topped with minced chicken neck meat and chives over savory Nurungji (scorched rice) porridge. Because of the black pepper and garlic, it might be a bit spicy for very young kids, but it completely hit the spot for us adults! It’s their signature menu, and I guarantee everyone will love it.
Making the Magic Sauce While the chicken is boiling, it's time to craft your sauce. Pour a generous amount of soy sauce, add the spicy Dadaegi paste and minced garlic (in a 1:1 ratio), a little bit of mustard, and mix it all up with the shredded cabbage.
Once the broth boils perfectly, start by eating the green onions and rice cakes. The rice cakes were so chewy, and the portion was surprisingly generous!
Then, take a sip of the broth. Wow. It is incredibly clean yet so deep and savory. This broth alone explains why this place is famous!
Next, dive into the chicken! Start with the breast and finish with the drumsticks. The meat is so tender yet pleasantly chewy, proving they use high-quality chicken. When you eat a piece of chicken with the cabbage dipping sauce... it is simply heaven! Our family was so hooked that we devoured it in silence. 🤣
The Grand Finale: Kalguksu (Noodles) After you finish the chicken, it is time for the mandatory final course: Kalguksu! Stir the noodles gently so they don't stick to the bottom.
The soft noodles absorb that incredibly rich broth perfectly. It’s delicious on its own, but here is a pro-tip: Mix the boiled noodles into your leftover spicy cabbage sauce! It tastes like a whole new spicy mixed noodle dish.
We added some extra potatoes and rice cakes at the end and left the restaurant completely stuffed!
[Jihye's Final Verdict]
Honestly, I wanted to put this broth in my tumbler and carry it around! 😆 I am so thankful that a proper, authentic Dakhanmari place like SuGyeOk is in Bundang. The broth has zero artificial MSG taste—just pure, deep, and clean flavor.
If you are craving a hot, soul-warming soup in the Bundang or Migeum area, this is the place to go!
Mahalo! 🌺
