Where to Eat Authentic Soy Marinated Crab in Seoul: Jang Jinyoung Ganjang Gejang (Hannam)

Aloha! 🌺 It’s Jihye in Seoul.

Today, I visited a place I’ve been wanting to try for a long time—Jang Jinyoung Ganjang Gejang (Hannam Branch). Run by a certified Korean Cuisine Master, this spot is famous among celebrities and has been featured on many TV shows!

Located right near Soonchunhyang University Hospital, it’s the perfect place for a hearty meal before shopping around Hannam-dong or Hangangjin. Just head down one flight of stairs to the basement level!

The Vibe & Mastery

Inside, the atmosphere is spacious and clean. You’ll be greeted by an incredible wall filled with awards and certificates—proof of the owner's status as a Korean Food Master.

Affordable Luxury: The Menu

The signature Soy Marinated Crab (Ganjang Gejang) is surprisingly affordable:

  • Standard Ganjang Gejang: 22,000 KRW per person

  • Premium Roe-filled (Al-baegi): 37,000 KRW per person

We ordered two servings of the standard version, and the table was overflowing with side dishes! It came with spicy marinated crab, seasoned oysters, boiled pork (suyuk), and even a complimentary soy-marinated shrimp!

The Taste Test: "Mecha Oishee!"

The crab is 100% domestic Korean crab, and even the standard version was packed with roe and meat.

The crab was packed with roe and meat.

The soy sauce has a subtle, elegant sweetness. It’s not too salty, making it enjoyable for everyone. While I was eating, a Japanese tourist next to me bit into a crab and shouted, "Mecha Oishee!" (Incredibly Delicious!) I couldn't agree more!

Don't forget to mix your rice in the crab shell—the highlight of the meal! The yellow millet rice mixed with the roe and savory soy sauce is absolute heaven.

Hidden Gem: Crab Seaweed Soup

They have a self-service corner for seaweed soup and scorched rice water (nurungji). To my surprise, the seaweed soup is made with crab! It uses a bit of soybean paste, so it's incredibly savory without any fishy smell.

If you want a high-quality, authentic Ganjang Gejang experience without breaking the bank in Hannam-dong, this is the place to go!
