10-Year Local Favorite Near Yuldong Park: Tender K-BBQ Pork Ribs at Hwadong Saenggalbi (Bundang, Korea)
Aloha, everyone! 🌺
Today, I’m taking you to a true local gem that I’ve been visiting for 10 years: a charcoal-grilled pork rib restaurant called Hwadong Saenggalbi (Yuldong Branch).
In case you aren't familiar with it, Yuldong Park is one of the most beloved getaway spots for Bundang locals. It boasts a massive, tranquil lake surrounded by lush walking trails and beautiful nature. People purposely drive here just to take a relaxing stroll, get some fresh air, and enjoy the peaceful vibe!
With the warm weather we’re having, eating delicious K-BBQ and taking a stroll around the beautiful Yuldong Park right in front of the restaurant makes for the absolute perfect weekend itinerary!
You can park right in front of the building. Because it’s such a popular Yuldong Park restaurant, there are many cars, but we always manage to find a spot! If you ever have trouble parking, just ask the owner—they will kindly sort it out for you.
🏢 Spacious & Perfect for Group Gatherings!
I highly recommend sitting by the window where the warm sunlight pours in! The restaurant is very spacious with plenty of seating. Both the first and second floors have private rooms that can accommodate large groups comfortably.
Because of the clean environment and amazing food, this is a top-tier spot for company dinners in Bundang or family gatherings. My family also frequently books a table here whenever we have a get-together!
🥗 The Ultimate K-BBQ Side Dishes (Banchan)
If you are a long-time regular here, you already know the drill! The carrots marinated in sweet grain syrup, the aged kimchi (Mugeunji) smelling deliciously of toasted sesame oil, and the brain-freezing cold acorn jelly soup (Muk-sabal) are absolute love.
The quality of the side dishes remains top-notch, and they recently added pickled wild garlic leaves (Myeonginamul) and green onion kimchi! Wrapping your grilled pork in these is definitely a pro foodie move, right? 😉
The cold acorn jelly soup is incredibly refreshing and has crunchy kimchi in it, making it the perfect appetizer to wake up your appetite. (If you take the kimchi out, kids love it too!)
You can get unlimited refills of side dishes and fresh lettuce wraps at the self-service bar. If there’s something missing from the bar, just press the call button on your table, and the staff will bring it to you!
[The Main Event: Handcrafted Marinated Pork Ribs]
The undisputed #1 most popular menu item here is the Handon (Premium Korean Pork) Marinated Pork Ribs (22,000 KRW for 250g). (If you come for a weekday lunch, they have an amazing deal: 200g of ribs + a meal for only 19,000 KRW!)
Kyaaah! My heart is pounding! The high-quality charcoal that will bring out the best flavor of the meat has finally arrived!
This is our 2 servings of marinated pork ribs. (Spoiler alert: it was so good we had to order another serving later! haha) Unlike some places that use artificial caramel coloring or overwhelming sauces, the meat here has a natural, clear color. The marinade is not overly salty or sweet, meaning you can eat an endless amount of it!
If you sit on the first floor, the male owner often walks around and grills the meat for you! For 10 years, he has given me the exact same instruction: "Cook it until it turns the color of chocolate!" However... when I grill it, it tends to turn the color of charcoal, so I usually leave it to the expert! (lol)
Once he cuts it into bite-sized pieces and gives it a good sear, he leaves you with a mission: "From now on, keep flipping it constantly!" You really have to work those tongs so the marinade doesn't burn.
Do I look like a pro griller? Well... the owner actually came back to save the meat for me! (lol) Look at that glossy, perfectly golden-brown pork rib! The meat is so incredibly tender and perfectly seasoned that you can just eat it plain without a lettuce wrap, and it just melts in your mouth!
🍚 The K-Dessert: Hanwoo Doenjang Jjigae & Nurungji
After a hearty meat meal, it's time for the obligatory K-Dessert! We ordered the Hanwoo (Korean Beef) Doenjang Jjigae + Pot Rice combo (7,000 KRW).
We poured hot water into the stone pot to make Nurungji (scorched rice soup). My family is absolutely obsessed with this nutty, comforting soup!
Eating a spoonful of this rich, savory soybean paste stew full of tofu and zucchini completely washes down any greasiness from the meat. This is exactly why Koreans consider savory stews and carbs to be the ultimate dessert after K-BBQ!
We wrapped the meat with fresh lettuce, paired it with spicy green onion kimchi, and took bites of the warm Nurungji. The meat disappeared from the grill so fast we had to order more! Even my picky child ate so much because the meat was so tender and perfectly seasoned. It made me so happy as a mom!
🍦 Sweet Finish & A Park Stroll
On your way out, they have free mix coffee and brewed coffee, and you can also buy some ice cream for a sweet finish.
After filling our bellies with amazing charcoal K-BBQ, we took a relaxing walk around the beautiful Yuldong Park right across the street. It’s always a happy dining experience here!
If you are looking for a fantastic family dining spot or a spacious restaurant for a group gathering in Bundang, I highly recommend this 10-year local favorite! Enjoy a great meal and a fun park outing!
Hope you all have a wonderful day!
