Where to Eat Premium Korean Beef in Seoul: Roseuok (Hannam)
Aloha! ๐บ It’s Jihye.
If you are looking for a place to enjoy high-quality Korean beef (Hanwoo) and whiskey in a fantastic atmosphere, I have the perfect spot for you.
What Makes Hanwoo So Special?
Before we talk about Roseuok, let’s talk about the star of the show: Hanwoo.
Hanwoo is a breed of small cattle native to Korea. It’s not just any beef; it’s a premium delicacy that holds a very special place in Korean food culture. Having lived abroad for many years and tasted some of the highest-grade steaks from all over the world, I can confidently say that nothing beats the flavor of Hanwoo.
While Wagyu is known for its intense, buttery marbling and USDA Prime for its meaty chew, Hanwoo sits perfectly in the middle. It offers an incredible balance of rich marbling and deep, beefy flavor. It’s tender, juicy, and has a unique "nutty" sweetness that you won't find anywhere else. If you are in Seoul, experiencing an authentic Hanwoo BBQ is a mandatory part of your culinary journey!
I recently visited Roseuok (Hannam Branch), located right at the entrance of Hannam-dong, making it the perfect start for a weekend outing!
The location is super convenient—it’s very close to Soonchunhyang University Hospital and Hannam Station. Plus, they offer valet parking, so driving here is absolutely hassle-free.
The Vibe: Traditional Meets Modern
Roseuok beautifully blends traditional Korean elegance with a luxurious modern touch. It’s an ideal place if you want to treat someone special or are looking for a romantic date night in Hannam-dong.
One of the biggest perks? It’s Corkage-Free! They already have a fantastic lineup of whiskey and wine (they even serve Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc by the glass!), but you are more than welcome to bring your own favorite bottle to pair with the beef.
The Menu: The Ultimate Hanwoo Experience
They offer various Hanwoo cuts, including specialty parts and beef tongue, and you can even request them to be marinated. I highly recommend trying their assorted platters to taste different cuts:
Modum Roast (Assorted): 430g for 155,000 KRW
Special Roast: 400g for 175,000 KRW
We ordered the Modum Roast, which came with thinly sliced sirloin, regular sirloin, upjin-sal (beef belly), and hand-cut chadol (brisket).
The side dishes were incredibly neat and appetizing, including sweet and crispy dried pollack, pickled garlic scapes, dried radish, and mustard greens. But the absolute showstopper was the mountain of fresh Crown Daisy (์ฅ๊ฐ) salad. The light dressing and fresh herbal scent paired incredibly perfectly with the Hanwoo—I completely understood why they served this instead of the usual green onion salad. I kept asking for refills!
Grilling the Masterpiece
We started with the thinly sliced sirloin. Since it's cut thin, it cooks incredibly fast, making it the perfect quick starter. They provide house-made paste and salt, but the meat quality is so outstanding that just a dip in the salt is perfection.
The regular sirloin was soft and moist, but my absolute favorite was the Upjin-sal (beef belly). The marbling was woven finely throughout the meat, making it melt-in-your-mouth tender. Even my child happily devoured the tender pieces!
A Perfect Finish: Ok Seolleongtang
To finish the meal, we ordered the Ok Seolleongtang (Beef Bone Soup) for 12,000 KRW. The portion was absolutely massive! It came with a generous serving of noodles and a bowl of rice. The soup was packed with premium beef cuts (Arong-satae), and the broth tasted incredibly rich and authentic without any artificial flavors.
If you are planning to share some wine or whiskey with someone special in Hannam-dong, Roseuok is the ultimate place to enjoy top-tier Hanwoo.
