My Ultimate Favorite Italian Spot in Seoul: Sedici (Life-Changing Gnocchi & Beef Tartare) (Seongsu)
Aloha! ๐บ It’s Jihye in Seoul.
Today, I visited my absolute favorite, deeply cherished pasta restaurant in Seongsu-dong: Sedici. I always ponder what to order before I go, but I inevitably end up ordering the exact same things because they are just that good! If you are looking for a good gnocchi and a fantastic glass of wine, this is the place.
Sedici is conveniently located just a short walk from Seongsu Station, making it the perfect spot to enjoy wine without worrying about the commute.
I arrived right when they opened (yes, the famous "open run"!). The interior is modern, but the rough, textured brown walls give it an earthy, almost cave-like natural vibe. They have a central bar seating area, which is spacious and comfortable.
Even early in the morning, the kitchen was super busy preparing for the day. They are always fully booked during lunch, so reservations are an absolute must!
Their menu features everything from delicate salads and beef tartare to various pastas, gnocchi, and risotto. They even offer pork french rack and beef tri-tip steak! The best part? The prices are shockingly reasonable. Most main dishes are in the low 20,000 KRW range, which is almost unheard of for a restaurant of this caliber in Seoul.
They also offer glasses of wine starting from just 10,000 KRW! Excellent food, beautiful atmosphere, and a great price—honestly, how could anyone resist returning?
We sat at the central bar, and the service was impeccable. The staff is not only very friendly but also incredibly fast and attentive. Sedici truly excels in both flavor and hospitality.
๐ Citrus Tomato Salad (14,000 KRW)
Our first appetizer was the Citrus Tomato Salad, and it was beautiful! It features perfectly peeled red and yellow cherry tomatoes, large fresh blueberries, and slightly bitter frisรฉe. The sparkling, transparent pieces in between? That’s homemade lemon jelly!
It was wonderfully refreshing and provided the perfect contrast to the rich dishes we ordered next. Every ingredient had a slightly different type of acidity, and I found myself scooping up every last drop of the dressing.
๐ฅฉ Korean-Style Beef Tartare (18,000 KRW)
Next came the Beef Tartare, with extra brioche bread (+3,000 KRW). I fall in love with its gorgeous plating every single time!
This isn't your average European tartare. It has a powerful, distinctively Korean twist! The tartare is mixed with crunchy pickled shallots, a deeply savory seaweed (Gim) pesto that has hints of soy sauce, and a subtly spicy chive oil. The flavors are complex and bold, which makes it pair well with the soft, buttery brioche.
This dish is so phenomenal that I want to invite all my foreign friends here just to treat them to this flavor! Pairing this with a glass of red wine? You simply can't stop.
๐ฅ The Life-Changing Mascarpone Gnocchi
Sedici is renowned as the top spot for gnocchi in Seongsu. While many places heavily rely on truffle oil for flavor, Sedici takes a pure, elegant approach by using a rich mascarpone cheese base.
The texture contrast is brilliant: soft, pillowy pan-seared potato gnocchi paired with extremely thin, crispy fried potato shreds (similar to kataifi) on top. The sauce is light—almost like a comforting soup—yet packed with the deep, beautiful flavor of milk and cheese. It is never too heavy or greasy.
(๐ก Jihye's Pro Tip: Make sure to save a piece of your brioche to wipe the gnocchi plate clean at the end. It's too good to waste!)
Whenever I visit Sedici, I am deeply impressed by their consistent quality, wonderful taste, and kind service. If you want to enjoy top-tier Italian food and wine at a comfortable price point in Seoul, I highly, highly recommend Sedici.
Don't forget to make a reservation! Have a wonderful day, and Mahalo! ๐บ
